@joeo10 I don't ever go to twitter now for news events. It's quite literally the last thing I check. The sole exception was last Irish election, where I had a list setup with known tallycounters accounts. That was an invaluable source of hard information, but that's hugely outside the norm.

@gtwilson it's just the quality of the news in the states is so so bad. Case in point: Casey Anthony. Last time I was in the states, that was literally all that was on the 'news'. Hysteria writ large in the hunt for ratings.

@larand that seems to be particularly true in the states. I was immensely impressed with French tv coverage during the bataclan attacks - authoritative, unhurried, utterly lacking in sensationalism.
