What's better? Well, depends what you want. I've been a long time user of Pedometer++, its simple, does what you want, counts steps, you can set a daily target, it gives you confetti when you make it.
For walks recording, I've started using Trails. It maps the walk, gives all sorts of interesting stats.
There's also MovesApp, which many people swear by.
